Electric RC Airplanes – Basics

RC electric airplanes

RC electric airplanes

Airplane RC Models powered by electric motors were very uncommon, due to the excessive weight of the power system and battery, most of them are fueled by liquids such as nitro. However, the electric RC airplane has become commonplace, especially in models meant for beginner pilots.

Electric power advantages include reliability, convenience, low noise, low vibration, and clean operation. However modern electric airplane motors, combined with advanced batteries, have increased the performance of electric RC airplane by leaps and bounds.

There are three main types of battery packs in use for electric RC planes motors. These are Nickel Cadmium (NiCad), Nickel Metal Hydride (NiMH) and Lithium Polymer (LiPo). LiPo batteries are lighter for a given application, but are more expensive than NiCad or NiMH.

Electric RC plane types include powered sailplanes, indoor flyers, scale models, aerobatic models, and ducted fan (Jet RC-type). Virtually any type of RC Toys (Remote Control Toys) such as RC Boats, RC Helicopters, RC trucks/cars, or even RC Tank can now be electric powered.

Flying an Radio Controlled Toy Airplane is not as difficult as you may think. Electric Airplanes that are ready to fly (RTF) or almost ready to fly (ARF) are perfect for the first time flyer. With a little practice, these electric Radio Control Toy Airplanes can be flown in the park or even in your own backyard.

Select an open space and flat ground for your first time fly with no crowds, high buildings or electric lines nearby, and you’re ready to go. Most electric RC Airplanes are made of complex material of high strength, so they are not easily damaged even hitting the ground. So, enjoy your flight!

Airplanes RC

You are flying an RC airplane through the sky. Flying RC or radio controlled airplanes is an excellent hobby, and it can be a lot of fun. RC airplanes are perfect as a father and son activity. What types of Radio Controlled Airplanes are there?

There is so much more than just airplanes in the RC aircraft world.

1) RC Airplanes

2) Jet RC

3) Gliders

4) Remote Control Helicopter

5) Blimps

6) UFO’s

Can anybody Fly RC Airplanes?

RC airplanes are easy to operate and with a little practice, anyone can soon be an expert. You can choose from electric airplanes or gas powered. Typically, electric airplanes are the easier RC models to fly. Airplanes with a high wing design provide much more stability.

When you are first learning, fly the RC plane at a low height and not too far from you. Always be aware of which way the airplane is facing. That is rule number one of flying an airplane.

When thinking about buying your first one, take into consideration that most of the cheaper airplanes do not have options for modifying the signal frequency of the transmitter. If you see other people playing with their radio control toys, such as airplanes, RC heli, RC boats or radio controlled cars; you might experience random movement of your airplane while it is on because of interference of the other RC Toys. Be aware also that most electric RC airplanes have a low flight time of 5-15 minutes. Gas powered airplanes are more expensive, bigger and harder to maintain.

Just remember, the most important part is to have fun while remote control airplane flying. After all it’s still a radio controlled toy! Remember to buy a cheap airplane for your first remote control airplane! Be patient to learn, do not buy a $200 airplane, crash it and then hate the hobby.

Whether you chose to be part of the larger RC airplane community, or enjoy your hobby alone or with a friend, RC aircraft flying can be extremely satisfying.

The Giant and The Swift

Here we have a short article and videos about the world’s largest model RC Airplane and the world’s fastest model RC Plane.

World’s Largest RC Airplane

This is the largest model RC Airplane I’ve ever seen. Built by three men from Belgia, this bad giant holds the Guinness Book of World Records for largest RC plane of model RC planes! It has a span of 8.9m, 4 X 160cc engines; it weighs about 210 kg and is built on a scale of 1/5 of the B29.

On 26 January 2010, at the 2nd International Cup for RC Jets, Guinness World Records was present in Santo Domingo in the Dominican Republic to award the Guinness World Records certificate for the fastest remote controlled jet powered model aircraft (RC). During the presentation of the 2nd International Cup for RC Jets, to happen in Santo Domingo from 29 to 31 January, Guinness World Records Adjudicator, Carlos Martinez, awarded the new world record to Axel Haché (Dominican Republic) and David Shulman (USA), the two pilots who flew their Radio Controlled model to maximum speeds of 542.64 Km/h (293 Knots or 337.18 mph).

The record attempt had recently taken place on 18 January at the Hobbyland Airfield, also in Santo Domingo. There downwind and upwind speeds were taken to eliminate the influence of the wind amongst other factors.

Well, that covers the tops of RC Model Airplanes. Maybe we should add more info about the tops of RC Boat and RC Truck, but let’s save it for later.

Just in case, maybe you want to check the other posts about Remote Control Helicopter:
