Practically every young boy would absolutely love to have a radio controlled toy. Even some adults like radio controlled toys too! Obviously everyone in this world knows about rc toys, but maybe they don’t know anything about the first remote control device.
In 1893, Nikola Tesla created the first radio controlled device, when he designed and demonstrated the radio controlled boat to the public during an electrical exhibition at Madison Square Garden. Back then radio control technology was developed for military purpose.
In 1903, Leonardo Torres Quevedo presented the Telekino – a radio control robot – at the Paris Academy of Science, accompanied by a brief, and making an experimental demonstration. It was the pioneer of remote control.
The first remote-controlled model aeroplane flew in 1932, and the use of remote control technology for war was worked intensively during the Second World War. One of the results of this being the German Wasserfall missile.
In 1939, Philco created the Philco Mystery Control, a battery-operated electric low-frequency radio transmitter, making it the first wireless remote control for a consumer electronics device.
Then, the beginnings of the remote control car can be traced back to the 1940s, when small, nitromethane-powered engines first entered the market.
Several early commercially viable remote control cars became available by 1966, produced by El-Gi (Elettronica Giocattoli), a company from Reggio Emilia, Italy. Their first radio controlled car model was a 1:12 Ferrari 250LM.
Between the mid to late 1960s, a British company called Mardave also began to produce commercially viable remote control car toys. In 1976, the Japanese firm Tamiya released a series of highly detailed but mechanically simple electric on-road car models. This allowed remote control cars to be driven virtually anywhere, not just on bitumen and smooth surfaces.
Remote Control Nowadays
Nowadays, as you can see, remote control are everywhere, toy cars, trucks, remote helicopters, radio controlled airplanes, remote controlled boats, rc tanks, even TVs and funny toys such as in the video above! Remote control device is one of the most useful technology in the world.

I remember my first car it was red and small and the batteries died in what seemed like 2 minutes. I had to have bigger and better ones all the time. Finally I got up to the level that they ran fast and lasted long but nothing was as cool as my radio controlled trucks. They could drive over anything go anywhere, jump anything. They were a blast to drive. Thanks for this post.
Boy how things have changed. Now the electric rc cars can get up to 50+ miles an hour and some of the gas rc cars can get up to 70mph. Although those aren’t really for little boys.
