Building a radio controlled model airplane can be an enjoyable and rewarding hobby for practically anyone. However, knowing some of the basics about how to build radio controlled model airplanes can be helpful. Here are some tips to think about as you build your radio controlled toy.
There are three different types – model airplanes built from scratch, those purchased as a kit, and ARF (almost ready to fly). Additionally, ARF kits are much more expensive in comparison to kit built models.
Most radio controlled model airplanes can be rather large, so you should consider your workspace for this hobby. Take for example the wing span. Next, you’ll want to make sure you have the right tools and materials to assemble your radio controlled model airplane. To assemble your radio controlled model airplane you will also need glue, airplane dope, dope thinner, and some brushes.
Once you have a work area and have obtained the necessary tools and materials, you are ready to begin building your own radio controlled airplane!
As you build you’ll want to get the pieces ready for each assembly step. Many kit instructions are designed with these times in mind.
Tips for Flying Radio Controlled Airplanes
If you haven’t already then you owe it to yourself to try flying radio controlled airplanes. Here’s a list of things that you really need to know about flying r/c planes.

Take note of these tips :
- You have to make sure that the centre of gravity of your plane is where it should be so that it is balanced correctly.
- Make sure that everything that needs attaching is placed firmly on the plane.
- Flaps, rudder and ailerons must be able to move fully and easily
- Check the batteries and whether the r/c equipment is functioning properly. Keep in mind that battery problem is the most common cause in technical problems on playing electric r/c toys.
- When flying, make sure that you and your plane are well away from all obstacles, especially living things! You don’t want people to yell at you because your plane hit them.
- If you’re using jet r/c airplanes, take more caution!
If you don’t want to fly r/c airplanes but still want to fly, you might want to consider flying r/c helicopters.
